Albert Head Lagoon Regional Park is located approximately 30 minutes drive from Victoria BC, in the western shore municipality of Metchosin. This small (7.1 hectares) park is a favourite of birdwatchers as the lagoon attracts local ducks, geese and swans, as well as many varieties of migrating birds.
The largely flat trails meander along a cobble and sandy beach between the freshwater lagoon and the shores of the Strait of Juan de Fuca. You can see a wide variety of birds and perhaps observe them with their young – the lagoon is a wildlife sanctuary for migratory birds.
Bring a picnic to enjoy after your stroll, the beach offers magnificent views of Victoria to the east and the Olympic Peninsula to the south. Perhaps you’ll spot seals, or if you’re really lucky, a pod of passing orcas!
How to Get to Albert Head Regional Park
Take the Trans-Canada Highway west from Victoria, and then the Colwood (#10) exit. Follow this road, (the Island Highway, which turns into Sooke Road). Turn left on Metchosin Road, then left on Farhill Road, which turns into Park Drive, then Delgada Road, whichwill take you to the Albert Head Lagoon Regional Park entrance. Park hours: 7am to sunset. The park is open from sunrise to sunset. Visiting one of our beautiful regional parks is one of the best things to do in Victoria BC!
