Lacrosse in Victoria BC

Lacrosse is an outdoor sport that originated as a game played by Native North Americans of the plains and eastern woodlands.  Today both field lacrosse and box lacrosse are played in Victoria, and this outdoor activity has a great history and a strong following in the Greater Victoria area.

There are two main types of lacrosse with well developed programs for people who are living in Victoria to choose from:

Box Lacrosse –is a fast-paced game between two teams of six players each, played within the confines of a walled “box”.  Traditionally, and across much of Canada, this game is played on ice rinks after the ice is out for the season, or temporarily covered.  Because of the temperate climate in Victoria box lacrosse is often played at outdoor purpose-built lacrosse venues.

For more information about Box Lacrosse in Victoria, check out the BC Lacrosse Association Box Lacrosse website.  There you will find contact info for the various leagues operating in the Greater Victoria area for youth, women and senior men, as well as a ton of information about tournaments, coaching, governance, and some pretty cool video too!

The BC Lacrosse Association also oversees Field Lacrosse and here you will find all the news you need about field lacrosse for youth, women and men.  This outdoor sport has been referred to as “the fastest sport on two feet” and is played by two teams of ten players (12 in women’s field lacrosse).  The men’s version of the game is a rough, full contact sport, and the women’s is limited-contact, and more skill driven.  Either way – it’s a fast game.

Whether Box Lacrosse or Field Lacrosse is your preference, you are going to find a team to join (or follow) in Victoria BC.  Lacrosse in another outdoor sport that is enjoyed by many people who are living in Victoria.
