Mt Work Regional Park in Victoria BC

by Geoff McLean on November 6, 2012

Mt Work Regional Park is one of the largest regional parks in Victoria BC, offering diverse outdoor activities including hiking, mountain biking, swimming, canoeing and fishing.  There are three lakes within the park;

  • Durrance Lake;
  • Fork Lake, and
  • Pease Lake

Durrance Lake is the most accessible of these and is popular with swimmers and fishers (it’s stocked with catch-able trout).

You may hike to the summit of Mt. Work, the trail is rated moderate to challenging.  Some portions of the trail are very exposed to wind and weather so be sure you are prepared before you go!

The Mt Work-Hartland trail system is open to mountain biking and offers a wide range of terrain ranging from moderate to very difficult.  The South Island Mountain Biking Society is a good source of trail information.

How to Get to Mt. Work Regional Park

Main Entrance – Take the Pat Bay Highway from Victoria, and exit at West Saanich Road.  Turn left on Wallace Drive, and left on Willis Point Road, then turn left on Ross-Durrance Road, which leads to the park entrance on the left.

Durrance Lake Entrance – Follow the above directions to Willis Point Road but turn right on Durrance Close, which leads to the park entrance.

Hartland Entrance – Follow the above directions to West Saanich Road but turn left on Hartland Avenue, which leads to the park entrance on the right.

Munn Road Entrance – Take the Trans-Canada Highway from Victoria, and exit at #14 t to Highlands, keeping right at the fork. A right at Millstream Lake Road and another right at Munn Road will take you to the park entrance.

The park is open from sunrise to sunset year round.  Mt Work Regional Park is one of the best spots for outdoor activities in Victoria BC.
