Victoria Conservatory of Music

Since 1964 the Victoria Conservatory of Music (VCM) has sustained the community of musicians and music lovers in Victoria by supporting the teaching, learning and performance of music at all levels.  This not for profit society celebrates music as therapy and as a developmental aide as well as stimulating entertainment.

Over 1200 hundred students are presently studying various disciplines including piano, voice, brass, wind, strings, jazz, percussion, composition and theory.  As well, the specialized Music Therapy program helps people with special needs experience the joy and benefits of music.

The Vision of the VCM is:  To be a centre of excellence for music through education, performance and music therapy.

And their Mission:  To enrich lives through music as a thriving and sustainable regional centre of excellence, open and accessible to all who desire a meaningful connection with music.

Since its inception, the VCM has outgrown many homes, beginning with a small two story office building on Pandora Ave, and including the beautiful Craigdarroch Castle, which was much loved until it too, became too small for the VCM.

The Victoria Conservatory of Music is now at home in the beautiful, historic building which formerly housed the Metropolitan United Church.  Two concert halls are contained within the building; one large and one appropriate for recitals, and both with excellent acoustics.

If you are planning a special event, such as a wedding, birthday, grand opening or corporate party you might consider hiring a VCM performer or ensemble to provide accompanying music.

For people who are looking for musical instruction, there are comprehensive programs for children, youth and adults.  No matter your level of skill there are teachers, courses and activities to challenge, entertain and teach you.  Departments at the VCM include:

  • Children’s Music;
  • Adult Continuing Education;
  • Jazz Studies;
  • Keyboard;
  • Strings and Guitar;
  • Theory and Composition;
  • Voice;
  • Woodwinds, Brass and Percussion;
  • Collegium Program, and
  • Orchestras, Ensembles and Choirs.

The Victoria Conservatory of Music has established a sterling reputation amongst musicians and music lovers in Victoria for quality instruction and entertainment.
