Trade and Technical Schools in Victoria BC

There is an impressive variety of trade and technical schools in the Greater Victoria area.  Whether you are looking to acquire certification within a trade, or just expand your skill set, you can probably find a program that suits your needs.

These days, employers are in need of skilled workers, and most people need some sort of post-secondary training to compete in a tight job market.  A Dogwood Diploma (grade 12) won’t get you very far!

Wherever your interests and career ambitions lie, you are likely to find a school that can teach you what you need to know (unless you’re looking for clown school, the nearest one is on the mainland!)  You can train in several health services disciplines, such as:

  • Massage therapy;
  • Acupuncture;
  • First aid
  • Art therapy
  • Oriental Medicine, and
  • Hypnotherapy, among others.

If you want to prepare for administrative work, there are programs at career colleges like Sprott-Shaw that are recognized by prospective employers.

You can take driver training, en route to becoming a commercial trucker, at:

  • Saferway Driving School;
  • CSTT Complete School Of Truck Transportation, or
  • Crossroads Driving School.

Maybe you’d get a charge out of pursuing a career as an electrician, or want to flush out a plumbing career, perhaps dig up a landscaping job (okay, I’ll stop now) – you can train for all these careers at trade and technical schools in Victoria!

Camosun College offers apprenticeship training and/or Foundations training (Year 1) in the following trades fields:

  • Automotive Service Technician;
  • Carpenter;
  • Gasfitter;
  • Electrician;
  • Heavy Duty/Commercial Transport Mechanic;
  • Joiner;
  • Metal Fabricator;
  • Plumber;
  • Professional Cook;
  • Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Mechanic;
  • Residential Building Maintenance Worker;
  • Residential Construction Framing Technician;
  • Sheet Metal Worker;
  • Sprinkler Fitter;
  • Steam/Pipefitter, and
  • Welder

And this is just a smattering of the post secondary trade and technical school programs available in Victoria.  People who are living in Victoria can pursue an education to learn the skills necessary for almost any career (except clowning, somebody needs to start a clown school in Victoria)!
