Galloping Goose Regional Trail in Victoria BC

The Galloping Goose Regional Trail winds along 55 kms of former rail line, stretching from Victoria to Sooke.  This amazing multi-use trail is used by walkers and runners, bicyclists and horseback riders, among others.

The Goose, as it’s affectionately known, is named for the passenger car that transported the mail and up to 30 people twice daily between Sooke and Victoria in the 1920’s.  Now it offers a different sort of commute for people who want to leave their vehicles at home and get some exercise on their way to and from work or those just looking for a picturesque trail to hike, roller blade, ride the horse and walk the dog..

The Lochside Regional Trail intersects with the Goose at Switch Bridge, and leads out the Saanich Peninsula all the way to Swartz Bay and the BC Ferries Terminal.  Whether you use this extensive trail system to commute or for recreational purposes is up to you – it’s a fantastic way to move around the Greater Victoria area in either case!

How to Get to the Galloping Goose Regional Trail

The Galloping Goose passes through Victoria, Saanich View Royal, Langford, Colwood, Metchosin and Sooke. Check out this map to find your nearest point of entrance to the trail.  The Goose is open 24/7 and is one of the best places for outdoor activities in Victoria BC!
