Craigdarroch Castle in Victoria BC is a popular tourist destination operated by a dedicated group of volunteers. The castle, commissioned by Robert Dunsmuir, was completed in 1890 and today it offers a glimpse into the lavish lifestyle enjoyed by the very wealthy Dunsmuir family and is available for rental to individuals or businesses interested in putting on private functions.
The Craigdarroch Castle Historical Museum Society, which receives no government funding, is seeking volunteers who can spare a few hours each week and are interested in working in this amazing facility in a number of positions, including:
Docent – This position is perfect for those of you who are interested in learning the history of the castle and sharing it with the community. In the role of Docent you will be walking through the castle and engaging with visitors by answering questions and providing insight into the flavourful stories and beautiful artefacts the castle has to share!
Entrance Cashier – In this role you will be the first point of contact for visitors to the castle and learn how to operate our simple touch-screen cash and credit system.
Gift Shop Attendant – If you would enjoy handling a fun inventory and engaging with customers after they have experienced the castle, volunteering in our dynamic gift shop is an excellent opportunity to learn cash and credit handling and help our visitors on their way as they leave.
We schedule our volunteers typically for one or two 4-hour shifts per week for four months minimum. We offer excellent “benefits” including social gatherings, ongoing training and learning opportunities, and a week-long volunteer exchange program providing free admission to most other attractions in the city.
