Residents, or people who are considering a move to Colwood, can benefit from the many options for outdoor recreation in the area. Perched on the southern tip of Vancouver Island, the region claims undoubtedly the mildest climate in all of Canada and this allows us to get outdoors virtually 365 days a year. Whether you fall into the category of non athlete, preferring to get your fresh air while relaxing on your sundeck, part-time athlete, enjoying a brisk walk or easy bike ride, or a full-on, take no prisoners ironman triathlete type, you will be able to pursue your pleasure here.
Check out the Juan de Fuca Recreation Centre, this legacy of the 1994 Commonwealth Games offers 98 acres of sports venues, with everything you would expect to find at a rec centre (swimming pool, ice surfaces, playing fields of various types) and some you don’t see too often like a velodrome, lawn bowling and bmx track.
The famous Galloping Goose Trail winds through Colwood; originally a rail line connecting Victoria and Sooke, this trail has been developed into a multi-use venue that also connects with other trail systems, for a total length of around 100 kms.
If your passion is golf, then you’ll be happy here, our warm weather means you can golf all winter, and there are many fine courses in and near Colwood to challenge you.
In the northeast corner of Colwood you’ll find Goldstream Provincial Park, with massive trees, a meandering river, and hiking, biking, climbing and camping opportunities, to name just a few. There is also a well established interpretive program; a great way for children (or anyone!) to learn more about our natural environment and its cycles.
In short, there are so many things to keep you active and engaged in the community of Colwood, there’s little chance you will be bored living here!
