LiveVictoria

LiveVictoria is a website that was conceived in the summer of 1999.  The founders thought that the City of Victoria needed an online home for its music community.  Their mission is to provide a free, open-access, up-to-date resource for musicians and music lovers who want to learn more about music entertainment in Victoria.

Over the years, the site has changed and expanded to fit the needs of the community and now offers a wealth of services and information.  Show listings can be searched by date, venue, genre or all-ages categories.  There are more than 2500 local band listings, and you can search them in categories like:

  • All Bands (no kidding!);
  • Bands available for shows;
  • Bands seeking musicians;
  • Bands that still exist (too funny), and
  • Bands that no longer exist (uh, why?)

You can also search by genre, so if you are looking for a punk/metal/hardcore/noise band or a folk/celtic/Latin/world group (that still exists) for your special event, you can find it here.

If you are a musician looking to connect with others this is your one-stop shop.  There are over 2000 musicians listed here, and they are:

  • Available for casual jams;
  • Seeking serious projects;
  • Available for lessons, and
  • Bands seeking musicians.

The LiveVictoria site has an audio button where you can listen to:

  • New audio;
  • Recommended audio;
  • Random audio, and
  • Show previews.

There is a message board with a slew of music-related (and some not music related) categories, including:

  • General chit-chat;
  • Music chit-chat;
  • Gear buy and sell;
  • Up&coming (aka shameless promotion);
  • Show Reviews, and
  • Album Reviews, among others.

The website allows people to create and update their own listings which results in quite a few, let’s just say not quite “pc” or family friendly postings.  After all, musicians are often known to be a little…out there.  But as a resource for live music show listings, LiveVictoria is thorough, and thoroughly entertaining!
