One thing we now know about aging successfully is that keeping active and engaged with the world is very good for us. People who are living in Victoria in their retirement are fortunate because there is much choice in seniors activities in this beautiful city.
There are so many different seniors activities and programs available in the Greater Victoria area, and you’ll find a lot of them listed at the website; GreyPlay 101. This resource is easy to use and allows you to search by activity, location and available dates.
Silver Threads Service is a non-profit group that provides programs and services specifically designed for seniors. They operate two locations in the Greater Victoria area:
- Victoria Centre is located at 1728 Douglas St., Victoria, BC, and
- Saanich Centre is at 286 Hampton Rd., Victoria, BC
Of course seniors and other active retired people aren’t only interested in programs and activities that are only for seniors. These days many seniors are quite capable of keeping up with their younger counterparts, and get involved in all sorts of activities including:
- Fitness activities and outdoor activities like hiking, biking, swimming and running;
- Organized sports of all kinds;
- Theatre and the Arts;
- Local politics, and
- Volunteering;
Volunteerism is a particularly popular seniors activity because it allows people to give back to their communities and apply the life skills that they’ve developed over the years. And nothing feels better than helping other people!
Seniors activites can be a great boon to the seniors as well as the communities in which they live. If you are a senior or retired and living in Victoria or the Greater Victoria area you may take advantage of any (or many) of these opportunities to keep your brain and body active; in the long run, it’s good for everyone!
