Lacrosse is an outdoor sport that originated as a game played by Native North Americans of the plains and eastern woodlands. Today both field lacrosse and box lacrosse are played in Victoria, and this outdoor activity has a great history and a strong following in the Greater Victoria area.
There are two main types of lacrosse with well developed programs for people who are living in Victoria to choose from:
Box Lacrosse –is a fast-paced game between two teams of six players each, played within the confines of a walled “box”. Traditionally, and across much of Canada, this game is played on ice rinks after the ice is out for the season, or temporarily covered. Because of the temperate climate in Victoria box lacrosse is often played at outdoor purpose-built lacrosse venues.
