One of the many benefits of living in Victoria is the multitude of fun, exciting and entertaining events that occur here throughout the year.  Being a tourist destination does have its advantages!  Here are a couple new events for 2011, one which has just occurred, and one coming up in July.

The first annual Ryder Hesjedal’s Tour de Victoria took place on May 28th, in and around the Greater Victoria area.  The mass participation cycling event was presented by the Victoria International Cycling Festival Society, a registered non-profit society in the Province of British Columbia.

This event caters to all ages and fitness levels, offering a 140km race for serious riders, a 90km race for entry-level athletes, and a community ride for beginners and families.  During this inaugural event several high profile athletes participated, and a great time was had by all!

Next year the event is scheduled for June 24th, visit here to register.

Another entertaining new event in Victoria is the Victoria International Buskers Festival, running between July 15th and July 24th, 2011.  A diverse group of unique performers will be featured on stages along the Inner Harbour and in Bastion Square, as well as luchtime performances at the Bay Centre.

This family-oriented event will showcase artists from Australia, the US, Europe and across Canada. Attendance is free, but the buskers would appreciate a tip, hats will be available to pass!

These two new events in Victoria will add just a little more colour into the diverse variety of entertainment and sports entertainment in our beautiful city.  People who are living in Victoria are certainly lucky to reside in such a beautiful city which offers a lifestyle to be envied worldwide.
