The Victoria Grizzlies are a Tier II Junior “A” hockey team playing in the Coastal Conference of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL). The young men who play in this league provide a high level of sports entertainment at a modest ticket price.
Founded in the 1994-1995 season as an expansion team, these bruins began as the Victoria Salsa, changing their name to the Grizzlies in 2006. Bear Mountain Arena in Colwood is their home turf, and these young guns defend it with the ferocity of their namesake! The facility was built in 2004 and seats 2781.
The 2010 – 2011regular season kicks off on Sept. 10 with a home game against the Coquitlam Express. The team will be led by a new head coach; Victor Gervais, who is stepping up from his assistant coaching position to the top job. Last year the team finished 3rd in the Coastal Conference and hopes are high that they can improve their position in the up-coming season.
This year’s roster has a strong contingent of BC boys bolstered by additions from Alberta and Ontario. The game they play is fast and physical; these are young men out to prove themselves. Certainly some if not all of them have higher hockey aspirations, so there’s no resting on laurels!
The Victoria Grizzlies are committed to help the community by participating in various fundraisers, with a focus on local minor hockey associations. As well, they offer opportunities for groups to raise funds by selling Grizzlies tickets with their “Pucks for Bucks” initiative.
Check out a Grizzlies game and you’ll find a great source of sports entertainment right here in Victoria! Ticket prices are reasonable and you don’t have to catch a ferry or pay for a hotel room!
