If you’re living in Victoria BC, you probably already know about John’s Place! This diner style restaurant has been serving hungry diners since 1984, and serving us well. I’ve been going there on a semi-regular basis for the past 20 years, and been served by the same friendly staff the whole time. It must be a great place to work.
John’s Place is certainly a great place to eat; they have the best eggs benny in Victoria (my personal opinion) and amazing homemade soups. Their motto is ‘real food at real prices’ and they really live up to that claim. Homemade is the order of the day here. They serve breakfast all day, but don’t limit yourself, try one of the delicious burgers, an inventive salad or choose from a varied selection of ethnic mains. You will find several gluten-free and vegan menu choices, a kids menu and killer house made desserts; try the mile high apple pie.
The Food Network show ‘You Gotta Eat Here’ featured Johns Place in one of their episodes. John and his staff cooked up a mess of delicious patron favourites for them, including Eggs Benedict, Southwestern Meatloaf, Blue Cheese Stuffed Beef Burger, Mile High Apple Pie and Belgian Waffles with cream cheese syrup. Mmmmmm, makes me hungry just thinking about it.
Owner John Cantin probably didn’t know that he was building a Victoria institution when he opened the doors to John’s Place in the autumn of 1984, but the people of Victoria have been enjoying his creative cooking and the friendly atmosphere for so many years now and John’s Place consistently lands on various ‘Top Restaurants in Victoria’ lists. It’s certainly on my list!
