Soccer in Victoria BC

Soccer, or Football as it’s known outside North America, is one of the most popular outdoor sports in Victoria, played by more than 17,000 boys and girls, men and women on lower Vancouver Island.

Soccer is relatively inexpensive; due to the fact that equipment needs are light (cleats and shinpads) and outdoor venues (fields) are numerous across Greater Victoria.  And our mild winters allow us to play year round, unlike the rest of Canada, even most of BC.

There are a number of Soccer Associations operating in the Greater Victoria area offering teams for all ages and abilities, including:

LISA – Lower Island Soccer Association, operates the Metro/Select, Super-Y programmes and provides administrative services to eleven youth and adult soccer associations including:

  • Bays United FC;
  • Cordova Bay Soccer Association;
  • Cowichan Valley Soccer Association;
  • Gorge Soccer Association;
  • Gordon Head Soccer Association;
  • Juan de Fuca Soccer Association;
  • Lakehill Soccer Association;
  • Peninsula Soccer Association;
  • Prospect Lake Soccer Association;
  • Saltspring Island Youth Soccer Association, and
  • Sooke Soccer Association.

SVICSA – South Vancouver Island Classic’s Soccer Association A recreational Men’s league comprised of over 40’s and over 50’s whose objective is to provide an opportunity for ‘mature’ players to participate in recreational soccer games. The emphasis is on good sportsmanship and friendliness. To this end we do not keep a record of game results, and try not to deliberately kick each other.

LIWSA – Lower Island Womens Soccer Association promotes, organizes, and represents Women’s soccer of all levels on Vancouver Island.

So, you can see that if you want to participate in the exciting outdoor sport of soccer there is bound to be a team into which you will fit nicely, regardless of your age, gender or skill level.  Just another reason why it’s good to be “living in Victoria”!
