Blue Bridge Repertory Theatre

In 2008 a group led by veteran producer and director Brian Richmond founded the Blue Bridge Repertory Theatre in Victoria BC.  Designed as a supplement to the already extensive variety of theatre entertainment currently offered in Victoria, Blue Bridge showcases works from both classical and modern theatre traditions.

The beauty and simplicity of the Johnson Street Bridge gave both a name and inspiration to Blue Bridge Theatre.  The aim of this professional theatre company is to offer the residents of Victoria the opportunity to see world class productions of great plays while giving emerging theatre artists the chance to work with some of Canada’s most respected directors, designers and actors.

During their inaugural season Blue Bridge Repertory Theatre produced three plays which were presented in the historic Mcpherson Playhouse.  All three, “As You Like It”, “Death of a Salesman” and “The Fantasticks” were acclaimed by critics and well received by audiences.

The 2009 production of “Death of a Salesman” garnered Victoria Theatre Critics Spotlight Awards for Best Professional Production and Best Actor (David Ferry).

2010 saw Jacob Richmond named Favourite Actor by Monday Magazine for his portrayal of Biff Loman in “Death of a Salesman”.

Productions for 2010 also included “A Streetcar Named Desire”, “Hank Williams: The Show He Never Gave”, and the British farce, “Loot”.

Blue Bridge Repertory Theatre has the 2011 season already well in hand – plays have been selected and audition applications received, soon the first round of auditions will take place.  People living in Victoria can look forward to another exciting season of professional theatre entertainment courtesy of Blue Bridge.
