Greater Victoria – Oak Bay

Quaint and quiet it may be, but Oak Bay is far from boring! There are walking tours of our beautiful neighborhoods, architecture buffs will be amazed at the variety of beautiful homes, and horticulture enthusiasts will swoon when they see the carefully tended gardens.

Maybe you’d rather be golfing; there are three beautiful golf courses in the municipality, and many others within a short drive. The waters around Oak Bay are popular with kayakers, windsurfers and boaters of all stripes. If you prefer to be beside the water instead of on it, there are a number of sandy sheltered swimming beaches and rocky windswept beaches containing tidal pools bursting with sea life.

The Oak Bay Tea Party is a madcap event held the first weekend in June at Willows Park. Traditionally a little off the wall, this celebration was invented in 1963 by some folks with a little too much time on their hands who called themselves “The Oak Bay Bored of Trade”. Actually, they were mostly Kiwanis Club members looking for a unique fundraiser. Now operated by the Oak Bay Tea Party Society, the event raises funds for several local charities and features a parade, air show, bathtub race and other slightly bizarre stuff like the mayor’s floating teacup race.

Oak Bay is a prime location for those who want to live in a quiet luxurious community with access to activities and amenities. There are excellent schools both public and private, and recreational opportunities for all ages – from children to seniors. There are few better places to live than beautiful Oak Bay.
