North Saanich

Maybe the thought of an endless parade of relatives from the frozen prairies frightens you… it’s common for people who are living in Victoria to have visitors wanting to escape harsher climates. Well, that’s why they invented call display (just kidding). I think it’s kind of like citizens of the US who live in Hawaii – you either learn to enjoy the closeness of family and friends – or you go out!

Fortunately getting out and doing stuff is easy in North Saanich, you can visit the Panorama Recreation Centre for skating, swimming, indoor tennis and racquet sports, work up a sweat in the weight room or participate in one of the many programs that are run at this facility.

If it’s a nice day, (and it usually is) you can get outside and go for a walk, bike ride or saddle up the ponies for a ride along Lochside Regional Trail. Hike up to the top of Mt. Newton in John Dean Park and you’ll be treated to some spectacular views, and maybe you’ll spot some wildlife along the way.

Perhaps you’re up for a little beach-combing, check out the District of North Saanich website, it lists all of the trails, parks and beach accesses. Maybe you prefer to be on the water rather than beside it, North Saanich is riddled with marinas where you can moor your boat, and the protected waters of the Saanich Inlet are usually calm enough for even the smallest craft.

If golf is your game, check out the local courses at Ardmore and Glen Meadows. Greater Victoria contains a multitude of golf courses for you to sample and master.

There is no need to sit at home waiting for the phone to ring– get out and enjoy living in North Saanich!
