West Saanich Neighbourhoods – Gorge
The Gorge neighbourhood in West Saanich is an historical urban area very close to the city of Victoria BC. Sitting on the southern edge of West Saanich, the Gorge neighbourhood hugs the northern edge of Victoria’s storied waterway.
While much of West Saanich is rural, the Gorge is decidedly urban to suburban, having been developed long ago. Housing is diverse, with single family homes, townhomes and some apartment buildings. Most of the housing is older; there are some beautiful old historical homes bursting with character, popular projects for renovation enthusiasts.
The neighbourhood enjoys excellent access to the city of Victoria, transit is well supported – no need to buy a car if you don’t want that expense. The Gorge waterway has undergone extensive remediation and there are beautiful parks and paved pathways along its length, offering tons of outdoor recreational opportunities.
In 2012, a community garden was established at Cecilia Ravine Park, and there are plans for another at Gorge Park. Community gardens are extremely popular with people who are living in Victoria, after all, this IS the garden city!
