Lone Tree Hill Regional Park is located in the rugged district of Highlands and is a prime example of wilderness near the city. This 31 hectare, undeveloped park offers a moderate to challenging trail leading to the summit of Lone Tree Hill, where you’ll discover amazing views of the Highlands, Malahat, Victoria and in the distance the Olympic Mountain range and Mt. Baker in the US.
The summit of Lone Tree Hill is a rocky outcropping that does feature the decaying trunk of the original Lone Tree – a Douglas Fir and its successor, a gnarly Arbutus. During the spring you may see delicate wildflowers including fawn lilies, camas and shooting stars and at any time you are likely to see raptors like bald eagles, turkey vultures or red-tailed hawks soaring overhead.
How to Get to Lone Tree Hill Regional Park
Take the Trans-Canada Highway from Victoria, and exit #14 at Millstream Road. Turn right onto Millstream Road and follow until you reach the junction of Millstream Lake Road. Turn left here to continue on Millstream Road. The park entrance is on the right. It takes about 30 minutes to drive to Lone Tree Regional Park from Victoria. The park is open from sunrise to sunset.
