The fall of 2009 saw a new theatre company hatched to entertain people living in Victoria BC. The fledgling black box productions is…a little theatre company with a big voice…..
The dark comedy “Dog Sees God, Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead” was black box productions’ first show in October 2009. It is a (unauthorized by the Charles M Schulz estate) tale that imagines the characters from the Peanuts comic strip during their teenage years.
This was followed by the much-loved musical ANNIE, which was presented in Sidney at the Mary Winspear Centre in May 2010.
black box followed this with a summer production at the Travelodge Victoria – Killer Dinner Theatre – “Murder on the Oriental Rug”, an audience participation event that spoofs old-fashioned whodunits, the medical profession, ‘female problems’, and theater folks. The show started in June and ran through the summer of 2010.
The 2010 Victoria Fringe Festival saw black box reprise “Dog Sees God, Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead”. This popular show played to almost sold out audiences nightly. Monday Magazine reviewed the production and gave it a 4.5 star rating.
This new company is dedicated to bringing quality theatre entertainment to audiences in Victoria, whether in small scale cabaret settings or large traditional theatre spaces. black box productions aspires to one simple goal – “to provide quality, innovative theatre for our audiences and to evoke the most pure human emotions in all or our work”.
