Although the City of Victoria and some of the other municipalities have their own police forces, much of the Greater Victoria area is served by the RCMP, which means that there are opportunities for RCMP officers to be moving to Victoria BC for RCMP relocation.
And it’s a popular transfer, many RCMP members and their families would love to live in or near Victoria. Well, why not? The southern tip of Vancouver Island has the best climate in Canada. For people whose jobs regularly take them outside, in all sorts of conditions, day and night, it’s nice that blizzards are almost unheard of!
The local RCMP detachments are:
West Shore RCMP – serving
- The City of Colwood;
- The District of Highlands;
- The City of Langford;
- The District of Metchosin;
- The Town of View Royal;
- The Songhees First Nation, and
- The Esquimalt First Nation
Sidney/North Saanich RCMP, and
Sooke RCMP
The remaining municipalities are served by non-RCMP police forces.
Those RCMP officers who are able to secure a transfer here probably consider themselves lucky, after all Canada is a vast country and moving to Victoria BC for RCMP relocation must be high up on most officers’ (and their families) list of preferred locations.
